- Lester Bowles Pearson, the 14th Prime Minister of Canada came up with the idea it's possible to interpose between two nations who want a fight without using force, namely 'peacekeeping.' This unworkable concept was quickly adopted by Progressives as a handy tool to argue against military action by anyone anywhere for any reason. He was responsible for the 'points based' immigration system which has effectively turned Canada's largest metropolis into a third world city. Thirdly he was responsible for starting the anti-British move in Canadian affairs, later vastly increased in scope by his eager acolyte, Pierre Trudeau, with the creation of a non-historical national flag. Fourthly he did his best to remove any service and regimental attachments by unifying the Armed Forces. Fifthly he was responsible for Expo67 which give Canadians a Disney World view of the value of multiculturalism. And finally, Pearson started the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism that was later hijacked by Trudeau to introduce multiculturalism. In short, Pearson did his best to ruin not only Canada's military force, but the concept of using military force. At the same time he gave Canadians a distorted view of the world at large (Expo67) and of their country itself (French & English were out, multi was in).
- Pierre Trudeau was a very smart guy with a very big agenda. He gave Quebec virtual independence while pretending to be a Canadian nationalist. The fact so few people see this today is due to his mastery of the subject. Remember the look on his face? It was as if he knew something you didn't. He did. You didn't.
- Louise Arbour, former Supreme Court judge, advanced the idea in July 2006 that Israeli politicians should be personally criminally responsible for defending their country. This attack on the concept of self defence in general and Jews in particular, was beyond deplorable. That she did it as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights shows how distorted a view she had of that concept as well.
- John Diefenbaker. I hate to say it Dief, but when you killed the Avro Arrow you put a stake through the Conservative party that Canadians took years to pull out. Eleven thousand employees out of work in one day, many to go to the US space and aerospace program, and to top it off you had the planes physically destroyed! I was disgusted then. Still am.
- Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine, Canada's leading anti-Canadian polemicist. She and an alarming number of followers think capitalism is a conspiracy instead of what it is; an effective way to harness individual initiative to advance the general well-being.
- Maude Barlow, founder of the Council of Canadians, is Canada's leading anti-American polemicist. She thinks Americans with greedy, parched eyes, are anxious to get our precious water, and much else. Oddly enough the Council of Canadians advocates the "creation of participatory, living democracy for all the peoples of the world" just like George Bush wants in the Middle East. Still, they hate him.
- Wendy Cukier, a professor of Information Technology and the Associate Dean, Academic, Faculty of Business, Ryerson University, is a tireless advocate for the disarming of Canadians. She is the leading anti-gun spokesperson in Canada who believes that fewer guns in society will mean nicer people. This is wrong, of course, but many millions believe her, including the next name on the list.
- Mayor David Miller of Toronto has called for a total handgun ban in Canada because Toronto has a gun crime problem with fatherless Jamaican young people. Yes, that make sense, blame the gun, not the gunner. He has his followers, including the next important guy.
- Premier Dalton McGuinty agrees with David Miller that guns cause crime (except in Switzerland I guess). However his main reason for inclusion on this list is his non-action regarding the Caledonia land dispute. Maintaining law and order is the first task for any government. McGuinty failed this test.
- And finally, consider Maurice Baril. He was the man back at the UN in New York to whom General Roméo Dallaire reported. Dallaire asked for permission to "seize the arms caches" of the Interahamwe militia. Permission was refused. The death toll: 800,000. This is a crime for which no one has been found responsible and yet only Canadians were involved in the UN decision.
So much for Progressivism in practice.
Update
Miller is out Rob Ford is in as Mayor of Toronto, but Miller's damage is still to be undone.

Excellent post, I was unaware of #10, thanks for opening my eyes on that one.
Maurice Strong?
The thing to remember about Romeo Dallaire, Frank, is that he was a gutless coward. He stood by watching the slaughter of hundreds of thousands when he had the power to actually do something about it. He had the guns. Instead he sat, wringing his hands because the UN told him to stand down.
He needed to reach down into his pants, squeeze 'em like he had a pair, and do what needed to be done.
He failed. And he's been whining about it ever since.
Was it hard for him? Absolutely! But that is because of the choice he made... to "follow orders" instead of doing the right thing, which in that case was stopping the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent people.
Dallaire gets no sympathy from me.
